Overview

Video content can impact page load speed if not handled carefully. Videoselz is built with performance in mind, but there are additional steps you can take to keep your storefront fast.

Lazy Loading

Videoselz uses lazy loading by default. Videos are not downloaded until they are about to scroll into view. This means adding carousels to your page has minimal impact on initial page load.

Video Optimization

For the best performance, follow these guidelines when uploading videos:

  • Keep videos under 30 seconds for product showcases. Shorter videos load faster and have higher completion rates.
  • Use MP4 or MOV with H.264 encoding for maximum browser compatibility.
  • Compress before uploading. Tools like Handbrake or FFmpeg can reduce file size without visible quality loss.
  • Target 1080p resolution for most use cases. 4K is unnecessary for inline and mobile playback.

Reducing Layout Shift

Videoselz reserves space for video cards before they load, preventing Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS). Make sure your carousel's aspect ratio setting matches your actual video dimensions.

CDN Delivery

All video assets are served through a global CDN with edge caching. There is no additional setup required on your end.

Monitoring

We run regular performance tests and continuously monitor Core Web Vitals for Videoselz in realistic storefront conditions. That work focuses on:

  • LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) — ensuring video carousels do not inappropriately dominate the LCP element where we can control it.
  • CLS (Cumulative Layout Shift) — validating that reserved space and aspect ratio behavior keep layout stable as media loads.
  • INP (Interaction to Next Paint) — checking that playback and UI interactions stay off the critical path where possible.

You can still use Lighthouse or PageSpeed Insights on your own store to see how your theme and other apps interact with these metrics alongside Videoselz.
